What was your first job?
After part-time jobs in markets and hairdressers and a year of work placement at Heathrow Airport as part of my degree, my first proper job was in training and then operational management for White Rose Taverns, part of Tetley’s Brewery.

If you weren’t in your present position, what would you be doing?
Fortunately, I really enjoy what I do so am not desperate to do something else. However, I would love to have trained in the medical profession to be able to save and enhance the quality of people’s lives. The nearest I have come to that has been a First Aid course!

What is the worst mistake you’ve ever made?
Not appreciating everything I had when I was younger and care free. It’s hard to help young people to do that without sounding like a ‘preaching old fogey’!

What’s your ideal day away from the office?
My husband and I love to spend the occasional Sunday walking from Sandsend to Whitby along the beach, having a great lunch (other than fish and chips!) at the Magpie and then walking some of it off, on the stroll back.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?
James Martin – apart from loving his style of cooking, he’s also a Yorkshireman and his direct and honest banter really makes me laugh!

What was your best subject at school?
I loved sociology. It’s probably where my fascination with people began and carries on to this day!

What are you hobbies?
You can probably tell by now; I love good food (both cooking it and eating it), walking in the countryside, making our garden a lovely place to enjoy, travelling to see how other cultures live, spending time socialising with my amazing friends and, of course, people watching!

What would you do if you won the lottery?
I’d give a huge donation to the Alzheimer’s Society as it’s a horrible disease that my poor Mum has suffered from for many years now and I would help my stepson to fulfil his dream of becoming a commercial pilot.

What is your top time saving tip?
Start each week clear about what you want to achieve and remain focused, despite inevitable distractions!

What is your favourite time of day?
I love early summer evenings when we can come home from work and enjoy the end of the day in the garden with a barbecue and a glass of wine.

What is your favourite item of clothing?
My walking boots, as I have worn them on so many great walks. However, the holes appearing in them mean I need to replace them very soon!

What’s the best thing about being in Yorkshire?
Access to the beautiful Dales, down to earth people, and fat rascals from Betty’s.

What would your epitaph be?
She found something good in everyone and everything.
