Competency frameworks are invaluable performance and development tools in any organisation. However, as business conditions get tougher, the risk is they get forgotten about/pushed to one side just when they could be of most value.
You may have spent thousands of pounds and lots of time developing your framework but can you honestly say your competencies match business needs in the current climate?
Are they a presentation of aspirational rather than practical behaviours? Competencies need to help managers optimise their resources in smaller teams working in difficult conditions. New skills maybe required such as skilful cash flow management and utilising resources effectively.
